The activities of the Sub Commission are coordinated from the UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa in Nairobi, Kenya.
The UNESCO Regional Office is also responsible for implementation of all UNESCO activities in 13 Member States in Eastern Africa and the adjacent Indian Ocean Islands (Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tanzania, Somalia, South Sudan and Uganda) as well as the hosting and coordination of regional activities for the following programmes: UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS), Intergovernmental Council of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) and The Programme on Man and the Biosphere (MAB).
